I am sitting on our poach with a slight breeze and the sunshineing on my face. It is more than a slight breeze, but it is not a gale. I see lots of large boats. there is a beach close by but no one swimming.

Came back to the ship for lunch. I ate cod and still feel full.
This is a vacation land especially for blacks. They have been excluded in Many places in America until the Civil Rights movement but they were accepted here.
We went to Edgartown, the largest town which was very upscale. I went into the shops and bought a book for Cole to take to California, a ghost story. We learned all about the whaling industry. Whales were important because of whale oil. When Oil was discovered in Titusville Pa. Whale oil was not important. The oil in Pa. was drilled from the ground.
The captains who owned the ships that were sent all over the world were wealthy. They built massive houses close to the water. We learned they were gone for three or four years and their wives ran the businesses and took care of the enormous homes.
